Questions & answers

Honest answers about life at Hotel Clovis Lofts.

If your question isn't here, call (575) 763-9503 and a member of our office will be glad to help you.

Who can live at Hotel Clovis Lofts?

Everyone is welcome to apply. Hotel Clovis Lofts is an affordable community, so eligibility comes down to household income and size, never age. Call the office and we can tell you in a few minutes whether your household qualifies.

What are the income limits?

Household income must fall below limits that HUD sets each year for Curry County. They depend on how many people live with you and they change annually, so the surest way to know is to call us with a rough idea of your monthly income. Most people are surprised they qualify.

How much is the rent?

Rents are set below market under the affordable-housing program and vary by floor plan. They are a fixed amount, not a percentage of your income. Please call for current pricing and availability, and we will go over it together.

Is this the same as Section 8?

No, but they work well together. Hotel Clovis Lofts is tax-credit housing: rents are already set below market for every home, no voucher needed. If you do have a Housing Choice Voucher, we welcome it here. Call us and we will walk you through how the two combine.

Is this really the old Hotel Clovis?

The very same. The nine-story tower opened in 1929 and was once the tallest building between Amarillo and Albuquerque. After sitting quiet for years it was fully restored in 2012, art deco stonework, lobby, ballroom and all, and joined by a brand-new second building. Living here means living in a piece of Clovis history.

What is in the two buildings?

Sixty homes in all: loft apartments inside the restored 1929 tower, and modern apartments in the new building beside it. Both share the same community spaces and the same below-market rents. Ask for a tour of each and pick your favorite.

Is there a waitlist?

Availability changes through the year. When nothing is open we keep a waitlist and call in order as homes come ready. Joining is free, and we will always tell you honestly where you stand.

What documents will I need to apply?

Plan on a photo ID for each adult, Social Security cards for the household, and proof of income such as pay stubs or benefit letters. The office will give you the exact checklist when you apply and help you round up anything missing.

Can I have a pet?

Please call the office for the current pet policy and any deposits that apply. Assistance animals are always welcome in accordance with fair-housing law.

Is the building accessible?

We welcome reasonable accommodation and modification requests under Section 504 and the Fair Housing Act. Call us to talk through what you need. TTY users may dial 711.
